Expectations at Activision were that World at War would be the top-selling game of that year’s holiday season. There were no pre-existing plans to add the mode and no schedule in place for building it.Īdd to all of this the fact that it was a Call of Duty game - probably the biggest franchise on the planet at that point. World at War was behind schedule and the Zombies concept was introduced late in the development timeline. The team was already wrestling with new tech, and they were crunched for time. You can get Call of Duty and Alan Wake with PS Plus in July I prefer the round-based stuff, though. How to get two primary weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Shockingly, that's the map I enjoyed the least. Only the last map was truly out there with its setting, recycling the Soviet pyramid city from the campaign. Sadly, the imaginative map locations seen in Black Ops 3 and 4 were nowhere to be found in BOCW, instead returning to somewhat more grounded settings that had a few things "off" about them, like a WWII bunker (with a secret underground particle accelerator), US Firebase in Vietnam (with jump pads and teleporters), or Berlin (with the subway tunnels occupied by flaming train cars full of zombies and a secret Nazi teleporter to an evil dimension). The reward for completing every map's main quest (or two, in Outbreak's case) was the ability to start rounds with your weapons at Epic rarity, which was also busted, but made kicking rounds off with max aggression zombies a lot more fun. The ability to spawn in with any weapon I wanted was pretty busted, but I enjoyed being able to start matches with a nailgun or spring knife to be pretty fun. It's also got an active modding community on PC, as well as Steam Workshop support.īlack Ops Cold War for the ease of entry, fast pace, perk variety (there's no four perk limit anymore), and that item in spawn that lets you make zombies instantly reach max aggression and remove buffer time between rounds. The stories told through the main quests were pretty fun and challenging (Gorod Krovi exempt), and you can replay every single map from WaW, BO1, and BO2 that featured Richtofen and the lot with the Zombies Chronicles DLC. The wonder weapons weren't always great in practice, but all had really fun and distinct designs. Map settings were also outrageously weird and fun, like a stereotypical film noir setting with mood lighting being taken over by Lovecraftian monsters, or a medieval German castle built high in the mountains and now used as a Nazi base (complete with animate dragon heads and an alien pyramid hover room). Infinite Warfare's zombies was also really fun, but that one isn't so popular for some reason.īlack Ops 3 for the last of the "classic" Zombies modes, where zombies were deadlier and more aggressive at the start of the match, player movement was weightier, and persistent progression features were minimal. The upgrades were handled well in Vanguard and it felt like a response to that from Cold War but, aside from the remake of Shi No Numa which was great, the rest of the Vanguard zombies mode was a total waste. Our only criticism is that you end up really overpowered once you've done the player upgrades. It was great, a bunch of varied content and a lot of stuff to do. It was just wasting time to no avail and we kinda got tired of it.įor our money, we had so much fun with Cold War. Just the balance is totally screwed up for our specific combo and it sucked the fun out of it after a while as we'd pour hours into something and then a network issue or random occurrence would totally throw it away for us. That said, as a two-player pair we found it WAY too difficult to complete most of the easter eggs. There's so much content and it's all really good. A friend and I played a BUNCH of Call of Duty zombies over the last few years.īlack Ops 3 is, objectively speaking, by far the best.
